26/08/2011 - Brief Club Statement

At the committee meeting on the 15th August, the decision was made to withdraw our 1st team from the Kershaw Premier Division. Clearly this was a momentous decision for the club who are running one side as ‘Whittlesford United’ in Division of the County League.

To a man, virtually the whole of last year’s 1st team squad have left the club due to

  • ·         Playing at a higher level (Ridgeons League)
  • ·         Fresh challenge at a new club
  • ·         Disaffected with managerial set up last season
  • ·         Returning to previous clubs
  • ·         Taking a break from playing
  • ·         Retirement
  • ·         Work Relocation

Having worked so hard both on and off the pitch to reach the KPL, it’s difficult to understand how things have changed so dramatically in 2 years.

The recent article in the Cambridge News was a ‘personal reaction’ in realisation that the club were losing its players. The Club would like to put on record that it recognizes the achievements of the players on finishing in creditable positions (6th season 09/10) in our return to KPL.

We must now look forward and support the management team of Darren Ansell and Anthony Green. They look to have assembled a well balanced squad of existing players, some new signings and graduates from the Warriors. We are in the process of strengthening our links to the junior club with the aim of forming a reserve team in season 2012-13.

The club are also making some changes to its Management Committee, with further details to follow shortly. Our off field activities will continue with weekly raffles at home games, periodic social events and post match food at the Social Club.

We hope to see our regular supporters both home and away (if possible) as we embark on a challenging but potentially exciting period for the club.

12/04/2010 - Training 1980's Style

Just to prove football training is not a modern invention, the picture shows Planktini, Bagsy and the PO getting stuck into a session. The craze in those days was all about replacing fluids. My mineral water or icetonic drink is just out of sight!
